Principal's Bio

Principal

I started my teaching career long before I received a degree in education. As a teenager and young adult, I had the opportunity to teach children and adults dance and gymnastics. I continued this instruction as I worked toward my Bachelor's Degree at Spring Hill College. After receiving my degree, I taught fourth grade at Forest Hill Elementary School. The following year, I moved to Brazier Elementary School and taught fifth grade. I remained there for eight years. While teaching at Brazier, I returned to school and began work on my Master's Degree. I received this degree in 1988 from Spring Hill College. I transferred to Clark School of Mathematics and Science in 1991 where I again taught fifth grade for seven years as well as coached the cheerleading squad for six years. During this time I returned to school and received certification in Administration and Supervision from Alabama State University.

My administrative experience began at Alba Middle School where I worked as the Assistant Principal for two exciting years. I returned to school to begin working on my doctorate in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University. I completed the program during my tenure as Principal of Scarborough Middle School. I worked three years at Scarborough before being named principal of Grand Bay Middle School. I spent four years at Grand Bay Middle and then transferred to Dodge Elementary. This will be my seventh year as principal at Dodge.

I have worked with many summer programs over the years including regular summer school, teacher workshops with SARIC and MCPSS, Drug Free Schools programs and trainings, and Music and Me. I have also taught leadership classes for the University of South Alabama.

I have been married to Calvin Crist for 15 years. He is the Athletic Director for the Mobile County Public School System and the Supervisor for Physical Education, Health, and Driver Education. I have two wonderful sons, Charles and Brandon, and two great step-children, Cory and Courtney. Charles is at Northwestern University in Chicago working on his PhD in Law, and Brandon lives and works in Mobile. Cory and his wife, Ashley, teach at Mary G. Montgomery High School and Castlen Elementary School. They have one son, Connor. Courtney is married to Chris and works here in Mobile. Blakeley is their precious 2 year old daughter.  I have one brother, and I am very fortunate to still have my parents and my mother-in-law in my life. I also have a beautiful white cat named Snowball who adopted our family several years ago.
